Woob –  新 プログラム (New Program) originally brought to you in conjunction with the KIMURA -AOKI 研究所 Institute was only available for a limited time due to the experimental nature of the programs but after many months of negotiation KIMURA -AOKI have agreed on a hopefully more permanent Isometric release.

Woob – Tokyo Run – Hidden Mainframe Accessed

With the recent move into VR (more below) I thought I’d do a check on how many have hacked into the mainframe. Incredibly 11 people have now managed to bypass the Level 4 keycard and accessed the system simply by viewing Tokyo Run. Now this may not seem like a significant number but it’s not an easy task – major patience and commitment is required! Personally I was expecting 1 or 2 at most. So congratulations to the few who have gained access and for the rest yet to try here’s the blurb from the original post.

As you can see the film features an access card not unlike the Return to the City Keycard. In the real world a Series 9, Level 4 Keycard gave you access to the ‘Mainframe’ – a beta version of the forthcoming Woob track. The film teases ‘Mainframe Access lies within’ so connect the dots add a little patience some simple guesswork/deciphering and see where it gets you!

Recently however another way to decipher the content has arisen. Tokyo Run now resides inside it’s own virtual arcade cabinet on a giant wraparound screen within the VR Technolust Beta (seen below). You probably need a healthy dose of midi-chlorians in your system to decipher it in this way but the visual assault is significantly more potent. More details in this post

Woob – Tokyo Run now showing in Virtual Reality Wraparound Theatre via Oculus Rift Game Technolust

Technolust is a Virtual Reality game for Oculus Rift currently in development by Blair Renaud and Chris Abell of ‘Iris’ . Along with a handful of other VR games Technolust is regenerating interest in gaming for generations of jaded gamers bored with the constant recycle of military and historical shooters. The game doubled its kickstarter goal back in May and is currently in Beta available to all backers and those who pre-order.

On firing up the game you are transported into a detailed Bladerunner-esque world, which you are free to explore at your own pace. The finished game will also include a Mars colony, wastelands and other area’s and feature’s many worlds within worlds. There’s also a videogame arcade where you can interact with some of the machines and this is where you will find the Tokyo Run cabinet. Shown above being played by a random youtuber you get a rough idea of how that might feel …and what better mind-bending way to view the film!

Clips from Tokyo Run also crop up within the main game dotted around on monitors and billboards as seen below. You can also play the above video from the beginning to see more. (currently it start’s at the arcade)

Mainframe Access Denied

I have written a short piece over at the Urban Times about Tokyo Run. It gives further insight into the contents within the film and might help those of you struggling to gain mainframe access.

Woob – Tokyo Run

Set in the future this is an intense, often disjointed realtime computer simulation of one individuals attempt to access the ‘Mainframe’.

This micro-length animation is a companion piece to the forthcoming short Return to the City. Although the two story-lines are self-contained both films form a part of the Paradigm Flux universe and lay down the foundations for the main story.
