Woob – Substrate Aluminium – Vol.2 features uncut original unreleased Wuub track

woob SAVinyl fans rejoice! as hot on the heals of the just announced Lost 1194 Located Edition we now have a follow up to the sold out Substrate Aluminium Vol.1

SA Vol.2 aka Woob 9410 is a celebration of 20 years since Woob 1194, specifically I have uncovered – from the original studio DAT master recording – the full near uncut 14 minute mix of Wuub !

This full length version of the original Woob 1194 recording including the missing first 4 minutes or so has not been heard by anyone (until recently) since the album was compiled back in 1994. The track was the only one to be edited down for the album on the then very slow and new Pro-tools. On this release you are getting the whole thing at 33 rpm on one side of Acetate.

For the flip-side a recording originating from the re-birth of woob in 2010 – the 64k Edition of 85-bit is a rare track having previously only featured on the ‘Return to the City’ keycard. One of my favourite tracks, it has been remastered specifically for this release.

The new volume also includes a Bandcamp link to an exclusive 24-bit Flac or digital recordings of the vinyl available only for those who own the acetate – Plus signed and stickered sleeve  including the all new SA triangular aluminium/chrome sticker! 10 only – exclusively at Woob HQ. Woob – Substrate Aluminium

Above: Those grooves actually play Paradox III – that’s no mock up! The extra hole is a drive hole in the label area, used for engaging a special pin that prevents the disc from slipping on the turntable during the recording process.

SA VOL.1

Having achieved a great tone earlier this year with a one off Vinyl cut and the saturated sounds of The Six Hundred I still felt there was more avenues to explore and after receiving various emails from frustrated listeners who missed out on that ‘Ultra Edition’ Vinyl a new series was born.

Substrate Aluminum (named after the core or substrate that is the foundation of the record) is the vinyl partner to ‘The 600′ but whilst those warm saturated sounds could be compared to the feeling of an old comfy sofa after a hard days work, Substrate Aluminum is like sound dipped in a vat of the most expensive, melted Swiss chocolate. It has a richness and warmth that is the perfect antidote to a world filled with speakers spewing out stinging insect like overcompressed treble and nothing else – a small victory in the battle against the Loudness War.

Woob – The Six Hundred

THE600WOOB

Above : Don’t worry it won’t be 600 months until all new Woob material arrives!

The Six Hundred takes 4 tracks from the Have Landed album and re-masters them onto a 50 year (600 month) old reel to reel tape. Expect drop outs, wow, flutter, hiss, high end loss, channel dips and all the idiosyncrasy of tape magnified x10 but these issues which were once actively avoided when tape was still used have been embraced and combined with all the benefits of tape warmth, fullness etc these tracks sound very different and somewhat unpredictable. Only ‘Spine’ keeps the exact same arrangement plus there’s a very special string only version of Thieves.

However although the cover suggests otherwise ‘The Six Hundred’ is only half the story as this release is about revisiting tracks in the analog domain so the 10” Clear Vinyl 24-bit masters are also included. Previously only available to those lucky enough to get hold of a Wooden Artifact* the 10” was a one off clear vinyl that included specially re-mastered versions of ‘La Luna’ and ‘Bognor Regis Stripper’. Plus as an added bonus a track from the vinyl collection has also been included.
